Wall putty

Wall putty applied on interior wall for surface smoothing and finishing

Wall putty, commonly referred to as skim coat, is a high-performance, cementitious finishing material designed to create smooth, even, and aesthetically pleasing interior and exterior wall surfaces. It is typically composed of white cement (or high-quality grey cement in some formulations), fine fillers (such as calcium carbonate or silica), and specially selected performance-enhancing additives. Applied in thin layers (1–3 mm), wall putty effectively fills minor imperfections, seals pores, corrects surface irregularities, and provides an ideal base for subsequent paints, wallpapers, or decorative coatings.

Wall putty/skim coat

  • Interior Wall Putty — For dry indoor environments, focusing on smoothness, easy sanding, and excellent whiteness.
  • Exterior Wall Putty — Engineered for weather resistance, offering superior water repellency, crack-bridging ability, and UV stability.
  • Flexible Wall Putty — Enhanced with polymers for substrates subject to minor movement, thermal expansion, or vibration (e.g., lightweight blocks or panels).
  • Waterproof/Anti-Crack Wall Putty — Formulated for high-humidity areas (bathrooms, kitchens) or regions with frequent rainfall, providing enhanced moisture resistance and long-term durability.

Keiway Chemical’s HPMC and RDP are formulated with advanced polymer chemistries to provide exceptional water retention, workability, bonding strength, and durability. They enable formulators to achieve thin, uniform layers with minimal shrinkage, excellent sag resistance, and superior long-term performance, even under variable climatic conditions.

In Interior Wall Putty

  • HPMC: Delivers outstanding water retention to prevent rapid drying and surface cracking, ensures excellent workability and spreadability for effortless application, and provides smooth, lump-free consistency. It also enhances open time, improves anti-sagging properties on vertical surfaces, and promotes easy sanding with minimal dust, resulting in a flawless, high-whiteness finish ready for painting.
  • RDP: Significantly improves adhesion to various substrates (concrete, plaster, gypsum board), increases flexibility to reduce micro-cracking, and enhances impact resistance, ensuring a durable, crack-free surface that withstands normal interior stresses and maintains long-term integrity.

In Exterior Wall Putty

  • HPMC: Provides superior water retention under high-temperature and windy conditions, maintaining consistent workability and preventing premature drying or powdering. It enhances thixotropy for excellent anti-sagging on vertical façades, improves open time for larger-area applications, and contributes to uniform film formation with reduced shrinkage and surface defects.
  • RDP: Greatly enhances weather resistance, flexibility, and crack-bridging capability, allowing the putty to accommodate thermal expansion/contraction and minor substrate movements. It strengthens the bond to the base surface, improves water repellency, and increases overall durability against UV exposure, rain, and freeze-thaw cycles, delivering long-lasting exterior protection.

In Flexible Wall Putty

  • HPMC: Optimizes rheological properties for improved flow and leveling on flexible or deformable substrates, ensures prolonged open time for precise application, and maintains excellent water retention to prevent cracking during drying on substrates prone to movement.
  • RDP: Acts as the primary flexibility modifier, forming a polymer film within the cement matrix to significantly increase tensile strength, elongation, and crack resistance. This results in a highly resilient putty layer capable of bridging hairline cracks and accommodating substrate deformation without failure.

In Waterproof/Anti-Crack Wall Putty

  • HPMC: Ensures stable water retention and consistent viscosity even in humid environments, promoting uniform application and reducing the risk of shrinkage cracks. It also improves adhesion in damp conditions and extends working time for detailed finishing in moisture-prone areas.
  • RDP: Provides enhanced hydrophobicity, superior bonding strength in wet conditions, and outstanding flexibility to resist cracking caused by moisture ingress or thermal stress. It creates a robust, impermeable barrier that protects the substrate and maintains structural integrity over time in high-humidity or wet-area applications.
